I have found in my experience that I have to stay away from ALL mood and mind altering chemicals in order to recover. Tell your friend to talk to their sponsor and follow what their suggestion is. I do believe in AA's Big Book it addresses this very same issue, I think it is called "the marijuana maintenance program". I have never known anyone who has been successful at it. It sounds like your friend has reservations and is looking for an excuse to not fully surrender to this way of life.

I wish i could do that i tried i ended up worse than before. I was talking to another addict about this he told me that there is such a thing as (social addicts)people who can smoke pot and not do other drugs. i ended up hooked on xanax and meth both it almost killed me. i thought that wud b cool and i had it all figured out bcuz i finally made it 4 a year it started out working pretty good and then it was more and more until the pot wasn even doing a damned thing aymore. i know it sounds sad but it takes what it takes and if u tried to tell me this i was pissed remember there are no rules to follow and stipulations on an addict dont work unless they descide. keep loving them dont judge them i did that too and i fell hard if thats the way they do it just keep on loving them you may end up being the one who has what they want nothing absolutely nothin happens in gods world by mistake by gods grace i am not doing (my program) i have willingly descided to work the program. I remember before i descied to do the (marijuana maintenance program) there were always those same damned faces that pissed me off saying keep coming back, od they pissed me off| but man i cant wit to see those same faces tonight when i go to tables its pretty funny i love them today
