After the autumnal AVANT MUSIC 2008, Firlej would like to invite the public to experience ASYMMETRY FESTIVAL 2009. This time we leave jazz behind and explore the musical fields of post-metal, electronics and even hip-hop. The bands and artists which were invited by us, dash out into the future and they experiment with forms and, at the same time, mix what the old and very old with modern instruments. They make use of the reservoir until now restricted to some remote music genres.
We were already recognized by the audience members open to innovations. We would like to encourage the rest of the public, to leave their own musical tastes behind and look around in order to see the other, unknown forms. Not everybody is willing to do so they still listen to the mainstream garbage worth millions. Unfortunately, we don't have anything to offer to such people. Sorry.
If I was to look for an element which combines the artists taking part in Asymmetry I guess I would choose truth. We don't have a stage for pretenders, who like to wheedle like a theatre actor, striking the most made up poses. Some artists present a simple explosion of sounds, while in other cases the sound volcano has already erupted and the lava has already started to devour the listeners, as if by mistake. You can feel the intensity of the music. No one is left indifferent because this music requires sacrifice. It requires the listener to be taken under the reign of an indescribable and surprising soothing force. The decadent attitude and perceiving of the world through the constant struggle of civilization and nature this is reality. You can feel such a struggle when watching Amen Ra's live show. This isn't happiness and anger any more this is fury interchanging with melancholy. This is an asocial, individual step towards your own centre. An egoistic step, when we take the other people under consideration. This is life with it's message. Like in the case of Cult of Luna, a band that performs in Firlej quite regularly, and their message.
Asymmetry will feature a variety of form, modern sound and experimental arrangements proposed by the artists. Artists who were raised on worthy music and now they try to cross the border of that music. If you are a fan of electronic or hip-hop music, than you will have the chance to see how your favourite sounds are combined with heavy music, creating melancholic, complicated compositions. This is a festival for those people who are curious of the world. Fans, connoisseurs of music, not people who like to take part in college festivals or local town celebrations. This non mainstream, chamber festival is the fruit of the ideological staff of organizers related to Wroclaw's Firlej. and the equally ideological audience, gathered around the last.fm web portal, whose ideas and suggestions were taken under consideration in our repertoire.
